The Sleeper
|
The sleeper is a playful, enigmatic character who falls asleep the moment he
appears. Has he conjured Saltimbanco from the depths of his imagination, or is he
dreaming within the show?

The Ringmaster
|
He's the center of attention and he likes it! With his winning smile and
natural charm, he usually gets away with it.

The Worms
|
The Worms, like all human beings, are born with nothing and are at the very base
of society. All similar in appearance, yet different from one another, they must, with time,
adapt themselves to their environment. Thus, as the show goes on, they embody various
types of social characters, hoping on day to accede to the rank of Baroque, a cast of
visionaries. There are two classes of Worms within the framework of Saltimbanco, those
referred to as the Urban Worms, the faceless masses, those who follow the status quo; and
the Multicolored worms, the simplest of all, who follow their most primal urges.

The Baroques
|
The Baroques constitute the most important family of Saltimbanco. Armed with a
deeply perceptive vision of the world and sleeping under bridges, the Baroques,
throughout the fable, reveal the countless contradictions of our civilization where
imagination has not yet taken power.

The Clown
|
Rene Bazinet originated this role and many consider his the best of the Saltimbanco
alumni to play it. The clown, known by many character names throughout the performance, is
the true master of ceremonies and ringmaster of Saltimbanco. You'll find the Barron (our other
guide into this colorful world), La Mort (reminding us that we are all mortal), Eddie (the
playful child within us all), and the Devil. Rene Bazinet performed the role during the
orignal North American Tour (1992-1993) Japan (1994) and the Montreal Recall (1995), Julien
Cottreau played the character in Europe (1995-1997), Lee Ross during the Asia-Pacific resurgence
(1998-2000), and many, many wonderfully talented others!
